Barges, cranes and other equipment moved to “safe haven”
September 07, 2017
Barges, cranes and other equipment used in construction of the new Pensacola Bay Bridge will be moved to “safe haven” beginning today. This measure is being taken in response to potential threats from Hurricane Irma.
Though the current projected track of the storm lessens its threat to Northwest Florida, moving this amount of construction equipment is a time-consuming process that must begin now. Plans are to move equipment currently deployed in the Pensacola Bay to locations along Bayou Chico and East Bay.
Boaters are reminded to use caution in and around the Pensacola Bay Bridge and use only the main navigational channel when traveling under the bridge.
